Church Life

Presbyterian
Women

Presbyterian Women (PW) is a church-wide organization whose membership is open to all women. PW members are those who choose to participate in or be supportive of Presbyterian women in any way. Here at First Presbyterian Church of Chicago Heights we have four circles that provide a wide variety of activities and opportunities to pursue Bible studies published by Horizons, PW’s magazine. Newcomers are welcome to visit each circle as well as attend any of the monthly “gatherings,” where all women meet together.

Most of the gatherings occur on the first Tuesday of the month, September through May; the time varies depending on the program selected for that day. Be sure to check the CHIMES or the calendar on this web site or call the church office for this information. Please come and join us.

PURPOSE OF PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN

Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves: to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study, to support the mission of the church worldwide, to work for justice and peace, and to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom.

ESTHER CIRCLE
Meets at 12:00 noon on third Tuesdays, September through June, either in the homes of members or at the church. The hostess prepares the setting, members bring a sandwich, and the co-hostess supplies a dessert. They are currently studying “The Face Is Familiar: Remembering Unnamed Women in Scripture.” The circle supports PADS, Jones Center, Salvation Army, and other causes, and emphasizes friendship and sharing of lives.

MARTHA-RACHEL CIRCLE
Meets at 1:00 p.m. on second Thursdays, September through June, in members’ homes. A co-hostess provides dessert. In June the circle has a potluck luncheon. Their current Bible study is “The Face Is Familiar.” Besides being supportive of each other, the circle contributes to Jones Center, PADS, Shalom Ministries, and Fellowship of the Least Coin.

NAOMI CIRCLE
A spirited fun-loving and supportive group of all ages – Moms to Grandmoms. Meets third Tuesday of the month at 9:30 am at the church (babysitting available) from September through May, with “Brunch Out” as the last meeting. They are currently studying “The Purpose-Driven Life.” By making and selling handcrafted items, they contribute to various mission projects, and also sponsor church-wide drives to collect shoes for Hearts in Motion (in Central America) and to collect items for a rotating group of local missions.

REBEKAH CIRCLE
Meets on the third Tuesdays at 7:00 pm, September through June, at the church. Most of the members are working women, but anyone who would like to attend an evening circle is welcome. The circle is studying “The Face Is Familiar,” and they share mission concerns world wide and close to home. They also enjoy refreshments together as they share personal joys and concerns.
